Cantonese or Mandarin?
One of the larger Chinese dialects besides Mandarin is Cantonese which is also called yue. Cantonese is mainly spoken in the southern parts of China as in Hong Kong and Macau. Cantonese is based on the traditional Chinese language.
Mandarin is the only official language in China. It's a spoken language based on the written language called simplified Chinese. You learn Mandarin at school in China and it's Mandarin that is spoken on national TV and radio.
